English Teaching Lessons?
« on: October 29, 2013, 09:27:44 AM »
I am new here and new to the PC process. I have already been nominated and received a document "English Teaching Questions" and wanted to know how far along am I in the process? I wasn't expecting to hear anything since my Feb 2014 service date was moved to July 2014 which greatly disappointed me. Has anyone else been pushed from Winter to Summer 2014 as a possible departure date?

I have heard a lot of people are in same situation as you. Usually when they send that questionnaire it's because they're beginning the final review of your file. Once you send it back, they'll likely tell you when to expect an invitation.

Hey Alexandra,

I was nominated right after my interview, in February 2010.  And I didn't get my invitation until December 2010, to leave April 2011.  In between nomination and invitation, they also ask for follow-ups in general.  Most further information they need is related to medical and placement.  The English Teaching Qs sounds to me like they want further info in order to place you well.  How long ago was your nomination?  Any follow-ups yet on the medical process?  And online they should tell you how far you are in the process--if you have been medically cleared, etc.

Hope that helps!

Alexandra, I was told that it would be 6-8 weeks (roughly, some people take much less and some take much more time) after I submitted my placement questionnaire to hear from the placement office. Sure enough, within that time frame, I received an email from my placement specialist, and the next day my invitation. There have been stories of people getting their invites the very next day, or many months after the questionnaire--but I would say I had the typical experience.

Sorry to hear that you've been pushed back to July 2014. Getting your questionnaire so early can only be a good sign though; perhaps you'll receive your invitation early as well! I actually received my invitation 8 months ahead of my staging date, and I am quite happy with the amount of time I have to prepare myself mentally and financially :)

My husband and I were nominated for November 2012, but our invitation (for Nicaragua) is for August 2014.  It's been good for us to be able to spend a long time in Guatemala working on our Spanish and accomplishing some goals we had set for our volunteer work in Guatemala.

How long would you say it took to hear from Placement about the questions after you were legally pre-cleared?

Stephanie, I noticed I was legally pre-cleared June 5, 2013--it might have happened before then but I'm not sure! I got the email from Placement with the questions July 16.
