Personal Passport question
« on: February 03, 2014, 10:04:37 AM »
I sent my passport in with the DS82 form since I wouldn't need it before staging. My understanding is I will get it back during staging, and I should mail it back to my family here for safe keeping. Is that correct? and if so, what do I need to have with me at staging to safely mail it back home? Is USPS sufficient or should I get something from FedEx or UPS instead?

If you plan on traveling after service for an extended length of time, or applying to for a visa to stay longterm somewhere (which you may not KNOW now whether you will, plans change) you will need to have your personal passport with you. I would not have felt comfortable having my family mail my personal passport to Bulgaria for me. Most volunteers I knew brought their personal passports along with their PC passports. Also, it can be helpful if you are traveling out of country during your service to have both.
